Your DNA and Skincare

JANUARY 2013  - SCIENTIFIC BREAKTHROUGH

Did you know that when applying all natural ingredients and especially looking for paraben free products may not be enough for your skincare treatment? A new scientific breakthrough allows you now to fine tune your skin care regime and it all depends on your genes. This is now known as genetically targeted skincare or DNA skincare

Your DNA has certain genes and variants of those genes that no one else has and that is why DNA testing is the queen of all the porof in criminal cases.

As regards the skin, there may be a certain imbalance that needs boosting with certain ingredients that will help to restore the lost equilibrium. That means a custom built type of treatment which will really make all the difference.

This will consist of DNA repair enzymes and these are going to stimulate that essential skin cell growth which will really give great results.

Is A Chemical Free Face Wash That Important?

{EAV:29a392e09c3cf62f}Have you ever thought about how exposure to chemicals could be one of the reasons for the dramatic increase in cancer?  Certainly the figures from 1900 when only 8,000 people in the USA had the disease is a sobering thought. The American Cancer Society has calculated that there are probably one in three people who have cancer at the moment.

Well, we are exposed to all sorts of chemicals in what we eat, what we wear and also what we use in personal care products.  In fact it is often calculated that there are about 800 chemical compounds lurking in these products, not all of them harmful, of course.

But it might be a good idea to reduce the number and go for a natural product which will be safer and just as effective. I am thinking here of an organic and  chemical free face wash.

Let us look at some of the chemicals that are in face washes at the moment and are still sold in their millions. These are the ones you should avoid, if possible:-

   *  Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS).   This gives the lovely foam that you always get in shampoos and bubble baths but there is now evidence that it may be implicated in children’s urinary infections.

*  DEA and MEA ingredients are not that healthy either so you should be avoiding these too.

 * Propylene glycol should also be avoided as it is a harsh chemical used in antifreeze and other industrial preparations so not really suitable for your delicate skin. According to the  FDA, it is a known carcinogen

As we can see, all the above are not exactly very skin friendly. We need ingredients and raw materials which are as close to our skin composition as possible. Most of these are fully bio available and nourish and heal the skin. Let me give you some examples.

 *  honey lips derived form  manuka honey is well known for its antibacterial properties

*  kiwi fruit extract can hold moisture while at the same time maintaining the pH levels.

*  extracts of amino acids contained in apple juice which is great for creating soft caressing foam.

* Cetiol HE is a hydrophilic oil.

As we have seen, these chemical free face washes are perfectly practicable. You just have to know what to look for on the label.. Go for organic excellence

All Natural Beauty Products? Easier Said Than Done!

I know some people who actually use their home remedies a lot because they maintain that these are truly all natural beauty products. They are right to a certain extent but apart from the ingredients, have they thought about the following :-

* as they are not using chemical preservatives, how long can their products actually last?
* are their home products produced in a sterile environment?
* are they actually keeping their products in the fridge, immediately after using them?

These considerations point up the whole problem of what exactly we can put in  all natural beauty products and how long they are going to last.

Let’s face it, the preservatives, used up to now which are mainly parabens did serve a useful function in keeping away nasty molds, and other microorganisms which could be really harmful to our health.
But scientific research now shows that there are so many question marks, concerns and risks over their use, it is just simply better to avoid them altogether.

The cosmetic industry is sharply divided on this one. There are those who maintain that the parabens are within the normal safety limits and that there is no risk to our health. This lobby is mainly supported by the mainstream industry who insist that there is no danger.

It is easy to see why, because if they were to change, they would have to carry out extensive research on natural preservatives and the price of their products would shoot up. That might be better for the consumers in general but certainly not for their budget.

Essential oils.
The other main lobby which is led by The Campaign For Safe Cosmetics maintains that the only safe way is to avoid these synthetics and chemical preservatives altogether.

We now know that there are certain essential oils which are natural preservatives but they if they are used in all natural beauty products, they have to produced in very small batches as they will not simply last as long as the parabens which gave an average shelf life of several years. As we can see, the economic implications for the manufacturer and the consumer are enormous here.

However, the essential oils are now used more and more in the industry and the batches are small enough to guarantee safety within a shorter shelf life span.  These oils are :-

•    Rosemary
•    Thyme
•    Lemongrass
•    Eucalyptus
•    Clove
•    Peppermint
•    Mustard
•    Anise

All of these have been shown to be capable of being powerful disinfectants and also antibacterial agents. That is so important when they are used in all natural and organic beauty products.

But why leave all this to chance when one company in New Zealand has done all the donkey work for you and have added in natural preservatives so that their all natural beauty products are entirely safe and are produced to the highest standards.

Anti- Aging Skin Care Review – Why Most Skin Products Do Not Work

What do YOU look for in an anti-aging skin review?  Are you impressed by the glossy ads and the testimonials from your favourite actress or life role model?  You might well be and I think we are all sensitive to that sort of testimonial. Obviously it works like a dream as the cosmetic companies are laughing all the way to the bank.

There is a problem though. In spite of their best efforts, the products are not giving people the results they want fast enough. Also there are health risks inherent in the products. This is because they are not prepared to do all the expensive research on more natural ingredients and prefer using cheaper chemicals which are not really good for our health at all.

So, what is the best anti-aging skin care system, you may well ask? Well, first of all lifestyle is a factor which people tend to forget about and they do not realize how drinking alcohol can often have such a negative impact on the epidermis.

Just think of alcohol as containing no really useful calories or nutrients and the body looks on it as a toxin. We all know how alcoholics look as their skin is a give away. But even alcohol in moderation can be quite invasive.  It can rob the skin of its blood supply and deplete the nutrients, especially the invaluable Vitamin A which is so important for the renewal of skin cells.  As if that wasn’t bad enough, it also dehydrates the skin. Everyone wants hydrated smooth skin but a few glasses of wine might do more damage than you think!

The secret ingredient is that everybody wants in their anti-aging skin care treatment is collagen as that is responsible for how supple and firm our skin is going to be. There are all sorts of tricks of the trade here and none of them really work at all but they do a good job of trying to sell this to a gullible public.

They will persuade you that you need more collagen and there is whole gamut of collagen available in pills, supplements, injections and so on. It is a pity that the skin cannot even absorb any topical type of collage applied to it because of its molecular structure. So we can forget about that and save our money too.

Now there is one secret ingredient which can actually get your collagen producing what it was when you were younger. This is the one which should be mentioned in every anti-aging skin care review. It is not, for very obvious commercial reasons.  Why not check out the site attached to this blog  for more information on this.  Isn’t it time they stopped fooling you? You are in for a few surprises.

Natural Remedies For Age Spots - Finding a Natural, More Effective Remedy

Did you know that the French refer to age spots as cemetery medals? Things are not that bad but there is the whole question about the natural remedies for age spots.

Which are better? Herbs or plants as natural remedies for age spots? Well, the answer does not really matter as the idea of rubbing whatever juice of a plant on to numerous blemishes for months is hardly practical!
We know from various sources that the Iroquois had a rather special formula in which they used the impatiens plant to get rid of these spots or brown spots as they are sometimes called.

We could browse books on natural remedies for age spots and come up with more or less exotic solutions. Actually, the most common ones are those derived from the acidic fruit such as lemons, oranges, grapes, and strawberries.

There are also natural remedies for age spots which use a mixture of apple cider vinegar and orange juice. Then there are other mixtures using bilberries and buttermilk. Other more exotic preparations use castor oil and frankincense!

Natural Topical Creams For Dry Skin

If you are suffering from a dry skin there could be many reasons. It could simply be matter of a disease such as diabetes or simply a poor diet or long hot showers which wash out all the oils or the wrong type of soap. Before we look at creams for getting rid of dry skin, let us examine what is going on when it becomes dried up and what are the best solutions.

As 60% of whatever cream or lotion we put on our body is absorbed, this makes it all the more important that we should use natural plant oils rather than minerals and other harmful irritants. That applies also to creams for getting rid of dry skin.

There is one basic fact of life about skin care and it concerns extreme dry skin. As we age, our skin loses its inbuilt capacity to retain moisture and absorb the nutrients it needs.  Then we have the problem that we tend to produce less sebum (skin oil) as we get older. Add to that the fact that it cannot produce enough hyaluronic acid and collagen which leads to sagging skin and we have a formula for aging skin.

Is there anything we can do to stop this process or at least to delay it?  One solution which we can implement on a daily basis has been suggested by the Mayo Clinic when they discuss the topic on their website.

They recommend that any hot baths should be changed to warm baths. The reason is that hot water really strips away the protective essential oils which are also helping to keep our epidermis properly hydrated. Then we should also use tepid water for face washing and also avoid soaps as much as possible.

Weather conditions can also play a part and we should try to avoid wind, cold, too much sun and also dry conditions in the home.

Did you know that the clothes you wear may actually aggravate extreme dry skin? The reason is that fabrics like wool and rayon especially if worn near the skin, can actually trap the sweat. Dry skin friendly fabrics are cotton and linen.

When we do wash our skin we can avoid harsh soaps, keep the amount to a bare minimum and also opt for non-soap cleansers.

There is another problem associated with extreme dry skin and that is when we apply toner with cotton pads. Very often these are produced from cotton which has been treated with pesticides so we are applying another layer of toxins such as chlorine and dioxin!   The only way to avoid this is to make sure that any cotton wool or pads we use are certified 100% organic.

The solution to extreme dry skin is to find a skincare regime where you can use a facial cleanser which actually puts all the moisture and nutrients back again. If this sounds too good to be true, why not try a formula which is rich in vitamins, and proteins all from natural plant sources.

Manuka honey is one such ingredient as it also a great antibacterial agent.  Then you need some high antioxidant ingredients which will help regenerate new skin cells but also help you to keep the skin hydrated so that dry chapped skin is no longer an embarrassment.

An Honest Guide To Skin Care Cream

Why do you think Mediterranean people in general have such fantastic complexions ? Certainly they are more exposed to the sun than we are.

It is probably their Mediterranean diet which makes all the difference. This diet is generally rich in fruit and vegetables and olive oil which produce the vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids for keeping your complexion in optimum condition and preventing precocious aging. But the cosmetic companies play down the role of diet in beauty care because it could affect their profits.
That is why we need to consider a few other factors when selecting the best skin care cream.
